LOL or whatever time...
I suspect the majority of us are approaching 'elderly' status. if not there already, like our politicians.
Many probably keep 'banker's hours'.
I am a "night-owl", still, a habit partly induced by employment in my youth...
I make countless posts in the middle of the night, with nary a single response. lol.
I know, there will probably be some tomorrow... I do not begrudge you your sleep... (he says, lol)
I just hate it when it seems as if I am the only one awake here. lol
GQP fascism keeps me awake at night..

(14,961 posts)The only time they shut down that I know of, is for maintenance once in a blue moon. They also put up a message before doing so.
Welcome to DU.

(204,695 posts)And not just time zones across the U.S. and Canada, lots of DUers live other places in the world. We really are an international community. Myself, I've always been a night owl, plus I worked nights for many years - by choice. Welcome to DU!

(102,109 posts)Still, when it is 3 AM in Colorado, it is only 2 Am on the West Coast and 5 on the East Coast, so...

(204,695 posts)Some times are busier than others, but, like I said, we're here from all time zones - and not just from North America. There are kindred spirits everywhere.

(111,912 posts)It seems like the timeframe between 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Eastern time is when the discussions die down.
When I joined DU ten years ago there were more serious discussions occurring at night and that has diminished. I recall a couple of times where I spent an hour or more reading a specific thread and replying to posts in those threads.
Welcome to DU.

(34,195 posts)However much of my time is spent reading posts and not necessarily responding..
During the daylight hours I often scan online news sites and will post threads here.
I see you are fairly new to DU. You might try thinking of your posts as informative and not necessarily striking up a conversation.

(10,299 posts)Used to have startup and closedown sequences on television.
ATV (Associated Tele-Vision - UK TV company, now defunct) had pretty uplifting opening films...
Closedowns typically had the national anthem...
Would DU play the national anthem if it did close down at night?

(12,321 posts)closedown was the national anthem, followed by a test pattern.
Remember when the test pattern was actually used by your tv in home repairman to calibrate the picture?

(66,275 posts)I'll spend an evening having a few drinks, watching some favorite movies, and hanging out on DU. Every now and then, someone wants to pull an all-nighter. Those can be fun. But like a lot of us here, I'm getting up there in age, and can't drink and party all night like I could when I was a young tanker, full of piss and vinegar.
