(50,236 posts)Last week I got a bottle of stuff from the vet for our cat and I honestly thought I might have to use a hammer to get the pills out. Larry David was onto something when he did a whole episode of "Curb" about containers.

(34,131 posts)But they must use an impact wrench to tighten the tops! Sure, once opened they are easy to re-open, but that first time, man, it's nearly impossible for someone whose hands are no longer strong.

(15,798 posts)I took a bottle of juice back to the grocery store and asked for a refund. The man working the customer service desk asked if it was spoiled, and I told him I didn't know. He gave me one of those looks, and I explained that I hadn't been able to open it. His next look was one of condescending sympathy for the old lady who couldn't get to her prune juice. He smiled (more of a smirk, really), picked up the bottle and twisted the cap, at least that was his intent. He grabbed it harder and tried again, several times. One of the managers came by, and he gave it a try. Then they got the college kid who was working as a cart wrangler. The lid would not budge. The manager shrugged and said to give me a replacement bottle, I asked for a different brand, seeing as how. They went and fetched the new bottle and handed it to me with their apologies, but I wouldn't take it until I knew it could be opened. It took him a couple of tries, but he got it open. And he apologized for having made light of the situation.

(90,556 posts)a large jar of something (I had planned to re-use that jar because it was attractive) because it would not fit in the jar-opener & nothing I could do would budge it.

(12,462 posts)Of the lid with a butter knife handle that has a little weight to it. Tap it like 4 or5 times.
Usually I can open it after that.
Only works on metal lids tho.
