I am a private duty nurse for a very sick little boy. He has a severe metabolic disorder which causes seizures and his health is fragile. Poor little guy has a g-tube through which he receives his nutrition due to his swallowing issues and risk for aspiration pneumonia.
This little guy's mom is a hovering and "concerned" parent. She is always on top of his condition, his disease progress and therapeutic regimens. She is borderline munchausens by proxy.. Both parents are intelligent and educated.
BUT THESE MOTHEREFFERS WON'T GET THEIR VACCINATIONS!!!! THEY ARE PUTTING THIS ANGEL AT RISK AND I AM LIVID!
I have tried to educate them. My supervisor has tried to educate them. I am at my wits end with them. Just venting. Ugh, if he gets sick I am really going to be pissed off.

(29,067 posts)They're idiots. I am vaccinated and still wear mine throughout my shift. I haven't really broached the subject of masks with them...yet.

(29,067 posts)I live in Illinois and EVERY hospital I walk into requires a mask.

(50,949 posts)I worked with medically fragile children up until February of this year. I would have wanted to kill those people.
Very sick children are difficult to care for, and this mother sounds pretty mentally ill if she is borderline MBP. Could this be a wish for him to get it?

(23,973 posts)...or are his parents against all vaccinations?
Lunabell
(6,078 posts)His parents are just against the covid vaccine. I'm not sure of their political leanings, they may be trumpsters, we've never discussed that. I just don't understand it. They're both smart, savy people. She wouldn't explain, just that she doesn't trust it. Ugh!!

(23,973 posts)Munchausen by proxy. During my 45 years as a peds NP, I encountered a couple of moms who definitely raised my suspicions, one over time, and one the very first time I met her. Such a peculiar disorder.

(6,078 posts)She seems pretty odd, paces back and forth literally wringing her hands. Changes his diaper even though it isn't wet or dirty. Repositions him more frequently than needed even though he is relaxed, comfortable and his vital signs are stable. She sees seizure activity that I don't see. She has orders from the physician that she can change doses of his medication when she feels that it is either too much or not enough! She tells the doctors what she wants and they comply, lol.
I get the feeling she likes having a medically challenged child because he is her whole life. I find it odd. If she loved this child so much, why wouldn't she protect him by getting the vaccine? I don't get it.

I wouldn't wait too long to talk about masks with them.
I would also take notes on conversations with them about vaccines and masks. Dates, their responses. Talk with CPS about it. If the child does get covid, use the notes to push for child neglect charges against the parents.
Maybe give them articles about children who have died from covid, or suffered long term disabilities.

(1,336 posts)because they think/believe it came out far too quickly. They need to be educated in the actual development of the vaccine, which was under serious development since SARS in 2003. Work on potential mRNA vaccines started back in the 90's.
Some wag posted on facebook that the same people who won't get the vaccine "because we don't know what's in it" are the same folks who eat hotdog wieners.

(23,650 posts)Whats their rationale for not getting vexed? They do realize they could get sick, die and then their little boy would have no one. I just dont understand these people.
Youre an angel. Caring for a very sick little boy and dealing with dunderheads. Not sure I could do that.

(14,118 posts)to use to see that my youngest son (36 years old) gets vaxxed. Think about getting
CPS/Child Protective Services involved in seeing that your young man at least gets the help he
deserves, like the influenza vaxx for him and the covid vaxx for Mom and Dad. And thanks for caring.
