The enthusiasm, love, and joy they give! Youre greeted the same way whether you just got home from work you just took out the trash.
Sigh, cant wait until I can have a dog again

We would be walking in the park and one of us would hide behind a tree. The other would ask, " Champ where is mom (dad)".
He would look around and enter into existential panic. Then from behind the tree the missing parent jumps out "hi Champ" and euphoria would erupt and a 5 minute happy dance.
He eventually started looking behind the nearest tree but we would just do it with a tree a bit further away.
He thought we were world class magicians.
