Came to mind a poster who said the teen boy would answer scam/robocalls and tell them his name was Hugh Janus.

(4,605 posts)Ugh. I recently set my phone to Silence any calls from unknown numbers/numbers not in Contacts. About twice a day I go though and block all the numbers from silenced calls. Fun. Today there was one from Luxembourg. Suuuure. Guess they can spoof international numbers now??
The silencing thing did backfire on me last week when I missed a call from a window repair tech who was supposed to come out and replace a smashed window on the truck (weed eater + rock = bad for the truck). Oops.

(1,786 posts)My latest favorite is when the credit reduction ones come, then ask for your card number, I start stating a bunch of letters and keep going long after 16. They usually cuss then hang up. But I have them going for the first 5 minutes or so.
If I can make them angry, or waste their time, then I am good with that.

How to answer spam phone calls...
Keep asking: What is your name?
... until you get an answer.
What is your company/org name?
... until you get an answer.
What is your company/org address?
... until you get an answer.
What is your company/org phone number?
... until you get an answer.
What number can I get in contact with you?
... until you get an answer.
So what if they lie?
You're just going to hang up on them anyway.
Even better if you say 'sorry, not interested'.
.
Their time is also important to them.

(5,519 posts)I have had the number for years and it got so bad with the spammers that I just forwarded it to a number that plays a recording like the number you have reached is not in service and turned off the ringer and presto no more 20 calls a day
. Great reduction in spam. I dont even check it anymore. I can still use it to call out on, like a long call to my kids or customer service.
I generally use my cell phone with nomorobo installed which doesnt even ring for anyone who calls who is not in my contact list. The calls are kept in red print though in case its really someone I want to talk to. Unfortunately I still can get the messages of how Ive won the lottery or need to extend the warranty on my car. Its insane that its come to this.

(23,308 posts)Hugh Janus. Boys butt jokes are hilarious. Anyway, he did it so often we started to receive spammy postcards and newsletters addressed to Huge Janus. Not just a few of them a LOT of them. For years. Maybe I was the poster youre referring to? My teenage son cant be the only one. I still laugh about it.
