Totally forgot about this until looking through the photo roll on my phone a couple minutes ago...
On the way to work the other day, this was in the road.
Ive never seen this set up before! It was Verizon guys working. They were in the same spot the previous day but had human flaggers working.
There has been all sorts of work on my road this summer and there are always flaggers (and those stupid portable rumble strips), but never one of these contraptions.
I sat for several minutes, no other cars, no humans/workers to be seen. Just as I was about to say Screw this and your surveillance camera, Imma be late for work, the light changed from red to flashing yellow and, lo and behold, the little arm thing lifted. Huh.
It was weird.
Anyone ever encountered one of these?

(1,109 posts)No, and that setup would have surely caught me; however, they could never identify me as I would have been laughing so durn hard while speeding past that faux stop light, that my facial features would have been unrecognizable.

(4,588 posts)Sat there for at least three full minutes going, Wut? and laughing.
As several more minutes passed, and I stopped scanning the woods for harriers and desperate junkies, I started to get annoyed.
Then the little arm lifted.

(4,588 posts)I think the road and/or utility work somehow messed up the security gate at Ollie Norths house, lol! Every time Ive passed his driveway in the last few days, the gate has been sitting wide open, which is very unusual. Today, there was a repair van sitting by the open gate.

(1,109 posts)Although it's not winter, your story
reminded me of this Robert Frost poem:
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sounds the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
