6. We're Staying Away

My husband hasn't seen his mom in Sarasota in over 2 years. We have been hesitant about going to visit her. She literally told us not to come to visit because the COVID situation is so bad there.

And my aunt and uncle live in Venice which is just a little south of Sarasota and they are in pretty decent health for being in their late 80s early 90s but we can't go visit them even though we are all vaccinated. It's just too dangerous to try. I would shoot myself if I inadvertently brought covid to them.

My MIL actually lives in Venice, but I usually just say Sarasota. People at her church (the Catholic cathedral there) aren't masking, even though the bishop is asking them to. She's a Eucharistic minister, so she's in contact with a lot of people breathing in her face. Of course, she's continuing to mask even though she's been vaccinated since February.

13. My mom and aunt were born there

My grandma lived in Nokomis for 80 years but they were Methodists so I don't know if that's the same circles lol. I've been visiting there for 57 years and my wife and I have been for the last 35 years. We love going down there but the last year and a half have been a bummer. My aunt and uncle and cousins are the last folks i have on that side of the family and I miss them.

Hopefully we and you will all get to see them again soon!
