(6,052 posts)I was pretty young, our parents took me and my sister - it was one of our weekend outings as we were from Eastern Ohio. I remember taking a ferry to the Bass Islands. Once got caught in a terrible storm between the islands and the mainland, wow, Lake Erie can dish up some awesome waves! Long time ago in another time.

(31,659 posts)That would be west of Cleveland, about halfway to Toledo. Its a summer resort area. Ive only been there once, a long time ago.
Does Put-In-Bay or Kellys Island ring a bell? Same area but more well known, if only by name.
That area can indeed get whipped up by a storm really fast.

(759 posts)For a couple of nights in late September. Renting a lakefront home through vrbo. First stop on a two week road trip to Maine. Our dogs are coming along.
Hoping we get some decent weather, but who knows in late September. Hoping a road trip will be COVID safe.
Any suggestions on things to do/see in the area?

(31,659 posts)Was a popular resort town in the 50s and 60s and is slowly coming back, so if you drive down the strip youll see evidence of outside hamburger and shake joints, t shirt shops, and, in the evenings, places where you can play Fascination and those old vintage games.
The Geneva Lodge, on the western end of that strip, is where I took the pictures. They have a very nice restaurant in there called Horizons. Theres also a walking/biking trail part of which goes along the lake, and you can rent a bike at the Lodge front desk for a reasonable fee. (They have bikes good for oldsters like me) If youre more adventurous, theres a zip line you can try, again, I believe you sign up for that at The Lodge. Theres a beach but its west of the cabins and resorts in Geneva, only a short drive. I see people walking their dogs on the path. There are several wineries in the area and you can get info or directions to them at the Lodge. (If you like a dry Reisling try the Golden Bunches wine from Ferrantes.... its my favorite)
