He went into liver failure. We lost his sister, who was his litter mate in June. It's been a cruel summer. He was a big white cat, lean and agile and he meowed as if he was talking to you. I'm so bereft. I think he really missed his sister and was depressed. Not going to get much sleep tonight.

(204,695 posts)I actually knew another kitty named Loki, he belonged to my former boss. And she actually brought him into work once just so I could meet him. He let me pick him up and carry him around for a tour of the office. Your Loki sounds as lovable.
I know that there's not much anyone can say to mitigate the pain that you're feeling right now. I know, since I've been there, too. But the one thing you need to remember, Loki was so very fortunate to have found you.

(51,565 posts)She was able to adjust to one but when the second one died she couldn't take it for more than a few weeks before she adopted a new baby. The house is so empty, like a morgue. I lost mine a year ago and am still miserable. I don't have good health and my little dog was perfect for me and very, very attached. If I died first I am certain it would have damaged her own health. Besides, I heard that after you die you see your deceased pets so I have that thought to hope for.
Sometimes your pets come and visit you within the first few week after it dies. You may hear specific, personal sounds, see normal activities, etc. Everyone finds this comforting, knowing their baby is OK and you have a connection on another level.

(4,907 posts)A friend of our daughter had a cat who had a litter of 4 kittens. We agreed to take 2 on the condition that they spay mama, who was an indoor/outdoor cat who had just delivered her 3rd litter.
Loki and Boo looked nothing alike-she was a tiny dilute tortie and he was a long, muscular white cat. We're had them since they were 3 or 4 months old. The house feels very empty this morning.
They were like a old married couple who die a few months apart.
If I weren't technically inept, I'd post some pics. Thanks for the support, I'm kind of a mess right now and have to go to work and listen to the NYS Assembly Judiciary Committee hearings on Cuomo. I work for the Assembly and things are pretty interesting these days.

I'm so, so sorry. Losing a pet is so hard. It's that day you know must come, but you put it out of your mind their entire lives.
Hugs from afar.

Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,

I loved you so -

May their memories be eternal.
