Yes, that's my hand - petting Spooky Jr!!!! I have NO place for him, right now, but I am going to start working on something because it sure looks like I'll be able to do yet another kitten 'rescue'.

(26,259 posts)I certainly didn't want to grab him up, this morning, with Skittish, Mittens and Scooter there to be traumatized. He's starting to solo wander into the yard so once I figure out where to put him, I'll try for one of those visits.

(26,259 posts)I'm just SO relieved that the vet was so encouraging and helpful. I just love this clinic. It's been in the same place for something like 66 years. It's an old cinder block, absolutely NO frills, two operatory room clinic with two vets and a handful of techs. Some days the parking lot is full. I was lucky, this morning, to get straight in. I think all of the power outages might have something to do with that.

(35,654 posts)Youll find a place. I just saw an ad on Craigslist for five kittens just born. I put in for two. Human wont let them go until end of sept or early oct.
I dont know if Ill get them though. Lotta competition for cats around here cuz of COVID.

(26,259 posts)A friend who actually lives in Chicago but comes to visit, often, is taking Squeaky. My niece wants one of the gray ones and she has a friend who just lost a cat, so she's going to see if she wants the other gray one.
And now I might have Spooky Jr to deal with. Although the vet told me that at the age he/she is, it might be too late to fully bond with humans, but, still, would make a good outdoor pet.

(17,002 posts)He was meant to be a TNR but the owner of the property decided to be a jerk about it. Anyway, hes almost 8 now and full on lap kitty.

(35,654 posts)My spouse, the RG, used to go hiking in the mountains with his friends. They always hiked up the same mountain and there was this cat who lived in the woods they would often see and with whom they would interact. The cat was definitely feral but over time, got used to the humans who came to the mountain every weekend.
This went on from spring through late fall when they started worrying about the cat being out in the cold with no home. They hatched up a plan to capture the cat. I'm not sure how they did that part and the RG 's traveling so I can't ask him right now. They did, however, capture the cat and brought him back to their suburban home not from where I'm typing this.
Now, how did the cat turn into a sweet, domestic housecat who would happily sit on your lap in the Florida room? The RG said they wrapped him up in a towel and put him on their lap and stroked his head. I don't know how long this part took but I know it worked.

(26,259 posts)And I'm hopeful that if Mittens and Scooter see Spooky being so comfortable around me, they might also stop running away if I get too close.

(3,435 posts)..left them to fend for themselves. They have eaten every flower bloom in my planters, yard--thought theyd scamper off to nearby river. They are to small to use traps..so it looks they like it here. They are cute and mt little dog is besides himself wants to chase them out but seems like thry like goading him.
Thing is, mama squirel burrowed under block/ concrete foundation so i need to get them out and refill before they make it their winter home! I can't afford any major repairs ao I need to get them to clear out..my son suggested firecrackers..im thinking smoke bombs can buy at farm store; guy told M80s might scare them off[literally a baby dynamite; louder and stronger than firecrackers.] Damn don't want to kill the little critters or cause more damage to house. I called animal rescue..nope they dont do squirels bc they say squirels are rodent like. County animal control won't help either. Anyway, enjoy the kitten! Ps nice photo.

(26,259 posts)I actually have lavender scented epsom salts. I spread it along the garden fence, in case the groundhog decides to try and breach the perimeter. Also heard the same thing about shaving Irish Springs soap and spreading it around. Do it when they are out and the odor drives them away. Or, so they say.

(8,201 posts)Unlike people and dogs, cats don't have the necessary enzymes to process essential oils. I had a cat go into acute renal or liver failure (I can't remember which; it was a long time ago) from exposure. He survived and lived for quite a few more years, but he spent a week in the veterinary hospital.

(8,201 posts)Congratulations! I wonder if your vet knows of anyone who would foster and socialize him if you catch him?

(26,259 posts)I'm really anxious to find out little Spooky's gender. Well, the gender of all of Skittish's kittens.

(36,259 posts)I would toss a Temptations tidbit out and let it bounce a few times so they could chase it. Over time, I threw more and more of them so that they landed closer to me and eventually they even came into the apt. to get their reward -- then ran back out. But each trip back out became more and more reluctant. I finally got four into cages, adopted two, and took two to the Rabies Shelter (I hated to do that, but that's they way they handled it in that town) where they were soon adopted by the local Cat Ladies Rescue, or whatever they called themselves. I felt awful having to leave those two in that horrible concrete dungeon with loudly barking dogs, but shots and neutering for two were all my budget could stand at the time. I was relieved to see they were adopted so soon, but I was so worried that the shelter would fill up and they would be euthanized.
