Just got back from the vet. My brother needs practice on sexing kittens. The two little ones are both male so Maggie will not be re-named Madoc. And the two gray are both female - he thought MAYBE one was a male. And, to be fair to him, it took the vet to confirm Madoc's gender, although I was suspicious, this morning.
But the kittens are all incredibly healthy. The vet was shocked at how alert and active the two little ones are. Smokey, Sootie are pretty much at the 1lb mark. Madoc is just a little lighter and Squeaker is close at .7. They can start on wet kitten food - not even a slurry - just out of the can. I'll keep some milk there for them and transition them to water.
And he's cleared me to give them a kitten flea bath, as long as I keep them from being chilled. Considering it's going to be 90, today, that shouldn't be a problem. Just no AC
So - mental readjustment needed when referring to these wonders by name.

(4,659 posts)My granddaughter's rescue kitten was overwhelmed with them. The first day, they picked 250 off. (I know, right, who counts fleas!). Every day the count went down. The kitty loves baths.
She also had parasitic problems of some sort, but after two months she's almost cleared by the vet to be introduced into the rest of the house and meet their other cat.

(26,260 posts)I've been coming them with a flea comb, because I couldn't find a kitten brush that didn't look 'painful' and I haven't seen a single flea. BUT, that's ok. I'll give them a good combing, bathe them, and give them another coming after they are dry.
I'll take them back in 3 to 4 weeks for their first vaccinations. Then the separation anxiety will start.

(34,440 posts)until they are many weeks old. Ive had vets make mistakes that were found once they started a neuter surgery and found spaying was necessary.

(26,260 posts)I'm not going to cut ANY corners, financial or otherwise, when it comes to these angels. Especially now that the hissing and spitting has been replace by kitten licks and kitten nibbles. And don't get me started about how it feels when they climb on my lap and look up at me. It's heart melting.
