According to a report by newsit.gr, Turkish archaeologists excavating the site of the historical city of Troy on the hills of Hisarlik have unearthed a large wooden structure. Historians and archaeologists think what they have discovered are remains of the legendary Trojan Horse.
The excavations brought to light dozens of fir planks and beams up to 15 meters (49 feet) long. The remnants were assembled in a strange form, that led the experts to suspect they belong to the Trojan Horse. The wooden structure was inside the walls of the ancient city of Troy.

(66,322 posts)Most historians agree that the Trojan Horse is either a myth or a legend, with almost no basis in reality.

This is a call back to Heinrich Schliemann who blasted right through the classical Troy layer in his pursuit of proving the Iliad. A book I read speculated that the dirt pile he created in his excavation probably contained invaluable archeological information now disturbed and mixed.

(1,166 posts)I was so disappointed after reading the Iliad and not finding even one mention of the Horse. It would have made for such great drama that if the Horse had actually existed, I'm fairly certain Homer would have included it in his book. So since then I've always believed that the Trojan Horse was simply a myth.

(1,832 posts)... since they buried the supposedly main proof in the end of their report:
Another discovery that supports the archaeologists claims is a damaged bronze plate found on the site with the inscription For their return home, the Greeks dedicate this offering to Athena.
This is like "finding" the INRI sign from the cross of Jesus - more Indiana Jones BS than facts.
