2. Early morning play time had just ended

All four were on the couch, exploring and practicing their prowling, climbing, pouncing and what looked a whole lot like moonwalking.

It's almost hard to believe it's only been one week since this turn in my life took place.

(of course yours isn't as fast as a cat's unless you finally got chance to sit after chasing them around, but... )

6. They all just 'initiated' me into the art of kitten wrestling

There's not a lot required of me. I just sit there while they wrestle with my hands, arms, hair, clothes, you name it. Somehow 4 against 1 seems a bit unfair.

8. They aren't all that good at pouncing, so it is hilarious to watch them try

But they've gotten the 'kitten hop' down.

I do want to be careful and not roughhouse TOO much with them because I'd rather keep/hand off sweet kittens rather than saber tooth kittens.

The women we rescued Sophie from never held her or played with her when she was a kitten, so Sophie never developed into a cat who likes to to be snuggly and affectionately cuddly. She will curl up next to me, or sit on my lap and I do get the occasional head bump (usually in the middle of the night) but she's definitely not a real affectionate cat. We figured out each other's boundaries and respect them.

9. You are correct in all of this. Every time I hear about cats being aloof, I want to scream.

So much depends on their early socialization. All of mine have always been cuddlers because that was how they were raised. There is just something special about a lawful of cuddly kitty.

How are th outside kits doing?

10. I haven't seen Spooky, today, but Skittish, Mittens and Scooter were here for breakfast

Skittish spends a lot of time gazing around so I wonder if she's still looking for Spooky Jr. I was reading up on this and they said when a mother cat loses kittens after she's weaned them she gets over it, fairly quickly. So. we'll see. She stuck around and had a grooming session with Mittens, this morning. So sweet.

Squeaky was, well, squeaking yesterday and I saw Spooky, in the back yard looking towards the house. So, I closed the windows. I don't think she was here searching - I think it was a coincidence that she was here, eating, when Squeaky fired up.

It's been a week, today, and she seems to be going back to the routine of occasionally stopping by to see if there is any food in the bowls. Yesterday I saw her heading back to where ever it is she stays, across the street.

Today is TNR strategy day.
