My vet said go ahead and bath them, just don't let them get a chill. Squeaky squealed as if I had put him on the rack. All 4 of Madoc's legs went STRAIGHT out and stayed that way. Sootie was, well, semi-resigned to the process but not happy. But Smokey seemed to really enjoy it.
No flea shampoo, yet. According to the bottle, 7 weeks is the earliest it's safe to use. So I was told a little bit of blue Dawn dish detergent works great - so that's what I used.
Nobody but Smokey likes the hair dryer, even though I had it set on warm/low. But, truth be told, they weren't THAT much more wet than they get too enthusiastic during meal time and I have to sponge them off.
And I got a chance to give their play pen a real good cleaning. I found some hidden poop. Not much. Just some.
They will all get lots of extra cuddles, today. After I dry off, that is.

(9,941 posts)We have to bathe some of our babies in what we refer to as "juvie"...the kitten section of the stray jail and hotel...on occasion. They behave in just about the same ways your little guys did. They don't get blow-dried though, just toweled off thoroughly. We had one recently who was found in a parking lot and had grease on his head and paws. He was a cute little cream colored fella with a stump of a tail (obviously some Manx in his DNA!) and we named him Gearshift. He got a bath with some Dawn...after being treated with Goo Gone for the grease...and was right cute once he was cleaned up. None too happy with us, though. He went to a foster home last Friday to be socialized.

(6,574 posts)One of the cats we have now comes in the shower with me but only after I turn the water off. Then she comes in & wants pets & walks in the water & gets her paws wet, but that's it, just her paws.
I used to have a cat who liked to go out in the rain. She would frolic & play & come back in the house sopping dripping wet. Then she got "towelled off" by her dad. I'd put a towel over her & rub rub rub her all over & she loved it. When I held the towel & wiggled it she would charge into it like a bull charging a matador's cape (sorry, I hate bullfighting, it's incredibly inhumane but that's exactly what she did). That meant she got the towel over her again with more rub rubs, & we'd repeat that until she was somewhat dry. She passed a few years ago, I still miss her.

(3,302 posts)Wow, you accomplished a lot, today. Good work. If you plan to give them baths on a regular basis, you are starting them at the best age.
Your dedicated love and care for those precious kitten critters, will socialize and make them very companionable, playful and fun kitties.
around the house. Thank you, for making a difference in the world, and their lives.
