Some of the time it seems they are largely indifferent to our presence whereas other times they are skittish and flee and on rare occasions, they seek us out.

Except the penguin wasn't being chased.
It just jumped into the Zodiac.
No one knew what to do - touching a penguin is against the Treaty and a firing offense.
One guy just picked it up and let it go.
I asked him what it felt like.
He said "a cat"
