My friend's Night-Blooming Cereus bloomed!

This is a BFD because these plants bloom only once a year, and for only one night. I've been looking after my friend's house and garden while he's out of town, and he asked me to watch the cereus plant and take photos if it bloomed. They bloom only after sundown, usually between 9:00 and midnight, so I've been prowling around this garden late at night for the last few nights, hoping the neighbors didn't notice me and call the police, and it finally bloomed. And the flowers smell wonderful!

Just kidding.
Great pictures.

Higgins had it in a photography dark room and was trying to prove that he could get them to bloom in the middle of the day.

but I imagine that your neighbor will be a bit aggravated because he wasn't there for the event himself.

So beautiful, and such a rarity! You are truly fortunate to have experienced this, and the photo is divine!

I'm sure your friend will be thrilled. Maybe a little disappointed that he didn't get to see it firsthand, but absolutely thrilled and grateful to have such a beautiful photo of it!

Great work!

That sure looks like a warm climate. I've only just started planting flowers on my property. I somehow don't think this Cereus would withstand a MA winter. I can just imagine how lovely it smells. Saving it all up for its one glorious show.....

Thanks for the pic! K&R.

It would not survive a Minnesota winter, and its owner will be bringing inside pretty soon.
