A few years ago I was on the parent planning committee when the school my son attended was hosting a knowledge bowl tournament. I got to go to a local trophy place, along with a couple of the students, and design and order the trophies. It was giant fun. I have ever after retained a fondness for trophies.

This year's winners will pass the trophies on to next year's winners.

There's a plaque (actually 2 plaques now, as we've been holding the tournament for 25 years) that holds the engraved names all the all the winners. It hangs in Dad's living room.

It's a fun event. Everybody brings something to eat. We get paired up somewhat randomly. There's a trivia game, and for the kids there's a scavenger hunt (though this year we skipped that--there were not a lot of kids, as the little ones can't be vaccinated).

Usually after we finish the festivities, we end up at my Dad's to play dime-a-chip Texas Hold 'Em.

I think I may have been the last bridge partner Mom had before her Alzheimer's Disease hit. This year I noticed Dad having trouble keeping track of the game. I don't know that he has Alzheimer's, but he is 90 and forgetful.

A common interest with mom and dad just seems like a wonderful way to stay connected.

We do this in honor of my grandmother and my great-aunt who taught us all to play bridge. We started 25 years ago.

When I was a kid...my dad taught me cribbage in an effort to improve my quick math skills. It worked until algebra came along. Anyway, my family took cribbage seriously. We called our tournaments the "International, World & God Championships".

Thank you for sharing this pic of you and your mama.
