Its said to be the last remaining motel of its kind on a stretch of road that runs 3,000 miles from New York City to San Francisco, and you could own it for less than $225,000.
According to a report by The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Bedford County is home to the Lincoln Motor Court, which is currently up for sale. The U-shaped motel, located in Manns Choice, Pa, consists of 12 small cabins and an owners cabin and is one of dozens that once lined Pennsylvanias Lincoln Highway.
Lincoln Motor Court was built in 1940, before Howard Johnson hotels, and just in time for a post-WWII automobile and travel boom, when few options for overnight accommodations, apart from camping, were available to U.S. road trip travelers, the report said.
The Lincoln Motor Court was voted No. 2 in a USA Today list of Americas best roadside motels, The Post-Gazette reported. The Lincoln Motor Court, about 100 miles east of Pittsburgh, is often booked by groups and car clubs.

(26,241 posts)I was only about 6 years old but if I close my eyes, I can still picture that place in quite a bit of detail. It was right by the Straits and we could see the Mackinaw Bridge, illuminated at night.

(34,195 posts)I was about 10. We drove from rural western Pa to Berea, Ky for an older brother's wedding.
We stayed one night, each way, in a motor court similar to this.
My #1 memory of that trip was all the neon lights in the cities (me being a poor farm kid).
And a 'slaw burger' I had at a restaurant.
Basically a traditional hamburger with a coleslaw dressing placed on top of the burger.

(15,798 posts)such places were highly preferable to the cookie-cutter sterility of newer accommodations. Paper wrapped glasses and stiff bleach-scented towels, and bottled sodas from a vending machine next to the office...

(34,131 posts)At Lake Ella. Now the cottages have been converted into spaces for small independent, locally owned businesses and it is very successful. One day a week they have a farmer's market, the Vietnam Veterans of America (American Legion Post) meeting house is there with the Senior Center on the other end, and it is a vibrant part of the community. There are walking trails around the lake which adds to the attraction.
