The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI witnessed a Karen eruption today
I went to my usual place to fill my gas tank, and the option to pay at the pump wasn't available, so I went inside and got in line. The woman in front of me had a BIG blowup with the cashier. Then she walked out. Then she came back in, and continued the blowup, but this time I was caught in between the two of them. The cashier was a feisty little thing and yelled that the woman was now banned forever.
I also bought a Powerball ticket, and I told the cashier that I was going to have a great story to tell *when* I won the $685 million.
I just don't know how people manage to catch this stuff on video. It all happened very quickly.
Really, though, it's sad that so many people seem to be so angry and frustrated these days.

(9,478 posts)That they target loww-level customer service. It's these people's jobs to try to diffuse the situation and most are naturally going to be deferential, so its a boost to the Karen's ego that he/she can treat them like shit.

(2,883 posts)I know that since TFG was "elected" this kind of stuff occurs more often but Karens and Kens have been around for years. I have a relative who has behaved this way for over 30-40 years...Blowing up at restaurant staff, drive through banks and pharmacies and has even been escorted out of major retail outlets for bad behavior. She has major road rage (and is a terrible driver). She claims to be a liberal democrat but makes racist comments in public (I don't see her anymore)...I think she must be some kind of messed up libertarian because as a younger person she loved Ayn Rand garbage...weird mental issues, I think many trumpers/Karens must have...

(10,171 posts)A lot of people were lined up to get their booster, so I asked the guy in the elevator if he just got the booster. He said no he just got done with a ration of various shots because hed recently had some kind of organ transplant, didnt go any further. But I was thinking to myself, we live in a day and age where medicine can fix so many things. People have grown accustomed to that. Medicine can fix so many things, even a lot of stuff that is more or less self imposed. People growing up not that long ago were just glad to be able to avoid a lot of stuff. I really think 50 yrs ago wed never find ourselves in the state we are. I think a lot of people would like to see a persons behavior taken into account when treatment is handed out. I guess Im glad we arent there yet but seems to me at some point itll have to be factored in.

(28,817 posts)They are the moms that attack the teacher when their kids whine about them.
The one that attacks McDonalds because the drive thru didnt give them napkins.
Or the one that has 56 items in the ten item only only line.
Trump just emboldened them.
