Netflix will edit phone numbers out of Squid Game following prank calls

Oops!
Netflix’s immensely popular Squid Game is getting an edit after phone numbers shown in the series dialed real numbers, leading to what the company described as “unfortunate” prank dials.

The Korean drama about a sadistic “game,” in which players find themselves with no option but to participate in a series of twisted challenges, contains visible phone numbers in multiple scenes (a phone number is also clearly visible in the Squid Game trailer).

Reuters, which earlier reported the news, cited Netflix and production company Siren Pictures as saying they purposefully did not include a complete number and weren’t aware the number shown would reach a real line.

Netflix confirmed to The Verge that the numbers that appear in Squid Game will be edited, adding that it hopes that the change will end the prank calls.

A man who claims to be the owner of the number told a local media outlet that he’d been “bombarded” with messages and calls, adding that they had made it difficult to live his life normally. However, it appears as though multiple individuals may have received calls from enthusiast Squid Game viewers. Netflix did not immediately return a request for clarification about whether the series had impacted one or multiple local numbers.

But it's pretty dang violent and depressing, so you're hereby forewarned.

It's also dubbed into English if that sort of thing isn't your bag you won't like it.

Pretty much an R-Rated Korean Hunger Games ...

You can watch it in the original Korean with subtitles. The language options are in settings under audio and subtitles.

... She said most of the translations are good, but there are some really important lines that are not... And, they fundamentally change the reader's view of the character and moral message...

I do not hear well enough to watch anything without having it annoyingly loud for anyone else around. I am so used to watching words spoken that do not match the words I am reading. It would be really nice to hear and read a show in the same language...but I don't know if that really matters. Still it is a very nice option. Thanks!

I always have it set to original language with subtitles. So much of the nuance of the actors expression and tone is lost otherwise.

I have empathy for your hearing difficulties. I would think even hearing some of the original language would be enriching.

8. Did you see where I posted that WLS Radio changed their phone to 867-5309?

Someone in Chicago kept getting calls for Jenny. She wanted her number changed, so WLS bought the number. Walla...call the number and get the top 40 station!

Jenny was a real person and this really was her phone number....She lived in NYC...and yes, she changed her number as soon as the pranks began. An agent out in CA, changed his number to 867-5309 because it was "Good for business"
