Eat everything you normally eat but your only liquid for a month must be water.
I'm going to try from October 15 to November 15.
Don't ask me how I'll survive without coffee for a day let alone a month.

I had to recently for a medical situation because of the meds I had to take. Now I only do a 1/2 mug of coffee in morning as a result. About 6oz.
Still do just 1 wine or 1 beer w/dinner about 3-4 times a week.
I'm going for it

(112,141 posts)As for myself, no I couldn't tolerate drinking only water for a month. There are too many temptations like soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, and fruit smoothies that I would be lucky to hold to the water diet more than a day.

But what about egg nog, whipping cream and schapps served by your main squeeze at sunrise.

I actually drink ultra low alcohol beer, because I enjoy the taste but don't care for an alcohol buzz.
Any buzz I get comes from plant-based smoke.

(1,264 posts)Perhaps about once or twice a year I'll have a bit of soda or half of a beer or a wine cooler. To be honest, it never even entered my head to think that all I usually drink is water. It's a reminder to me that not everyone thinks alike.
If you crave the caffeine, can't you get it in some non-beverage form? Or is it not the caffeine so much as the smell, or the experience, that draws you to the coffee?
malaise
(268,955 posts)Been drinking it from childhood - the smell, the taste - I am a coffee drinker. On those rare days when I haven't had coffee I don't remember any withdrawal symptoms. we'll see.

(14,642 posts)I gave up high-test coffee decades ago and only drink a decaf about once a month. No soda, no juice ever. My doc at the time recommended it and I thought he was nuts.
The first few days without coffee will be hard, but you may actually feel better after that! Drink lots of water, like half your weight in ounces every day. Youll be surprised what a difference it makes.
Good luck and keep us posted!

(22,896 posts)Everyone around me drank it but somehow I never had the desire. I once took a sip of what I thought was Coke but it was cold coffee. I spit it out immediately because it tasted foul!! Maybe that's why??
wendyb-NC
(3,322 posts)Mainly, because of the subtraction of coffee, from your fluid intake. I guess you could take caffeine tablets or munch on some chocolate covered coffee beans. The caffeine tablets are a sorry substitute for a cup of fresh brewed, joe. The candied coffee beans are a novelty. I used to munch on them when I worked nights, but I was also drinking coffee, too.
It's not only the caffeine jolt from drinking coffee, it's taste and the aroma, and more. It is so multifaceted, it's an experience and a ritual. Good luck, I cheer you on, and wish you every possible benefit from choosing to drink only water for a month. Peace

I'd need more than "to see if I could do it". And, I don't see what that would be.
I only drink about 4 ounces of coffee a day.
I drink ultra low alcohol beer.
And the only juice I drink is tomato.
I'm mostly drinking just water now!
But, I wish you luck on your challenge.

(1,786 posts)No dairy, no soda, no fruit juice, no coffee. Just water.
Once you get used to it, you will wonder why you drank any of that other crap in the first place.
I drink out of the tap here in Sacramento but in most places I have been to, you might want to stick to bottled water, or filtered water.

Im not a coffee drinker, but I love tea. I take a break from time to time so I dont get too addicted to the caffeine. Its a serious addiction that most Americans dont take seriously enough.

(7,683 posts)to be serious about drinking water every day. So I did. I never had a problem, per se, with plain water. N.b.: there are some mineral waters that are very yummy and there's some water that is put through a really expensive ($2,000? $3,000?) machine that is so delish ...
Coffee for me would be tough to give up, even for a month.

(34,136 posts)In 2017, after my kidney was removed, I had a problem eating for several days. Before I went into the hospital I drank four to five large cups of coffee a day. By the time I got out of the hospital, I was over my caffeine withdrawal, so I did not go back to drinking coffee. All I drank was water, all day, every day.
I started drinking tea - Earl Gray and Perfectly Mint (Bigelow's blend of black tea and peppermint), mostly, though I also drink some herbal teas. But decided to limit myself to one cup a day so if my schedule is disrupted again I won't go through caffeine withdrawal again.
I still drink a lot of water ever day. Not sure how much exactly but I keep a 30 ounce Yeti style insulated cup filled with ice water next to me all the time.
Good luck - caffeine withdrawal is a pain.
i absolutely must have my coffee.....one of life's simple pleasures, that first cup of coffee
