Gin's juniper flavor can be overpowering without just the right mixers.

(759 posts)Question:
Should I have a Manhattan (just stocked up on Woodford Reserve) or Cuba Libre tonight?
Aristus
(66,316 posts)Go for the Manhattan, but only if you've got the cherries, too.
Retired Engineer Bob
(759 posts)And yes, I have some nice cherries from the Traverse City Whiskey Co.
Your sage advice is appreciated.

(25,848 posts)Here in New Mexico they like to make Bloody Margaritas with tequila instead of vodka, and as fond as I am of drinking, I find that to be undrinkable.
Gin, which I love in lots of things, such as a really dry martini, a good gin & tonic, an aviation, just to name a few, is not the only good clear alcohol. At least not in my own humble opinion.

Rained hard here in Montana today. Heading home west early; to avoid the high elevation snow predicted!

Going home tomorrow, too. I expect it will probably be cold and rainy across the mountains. Getting over the Pass was not a lot of fun when I drove out here on Wednesday...

This sounds like the beginning of a hard-boiled detective mystery.
"Just then, my office door opened up, and in walked trouble. Brunette, as usual. She was built like an interstate cloverleaf; made for speed, with all the right curves. Her dress and shoes said 'I have a sugar daddy', while the set of her lips said 'I hope someone kills the son of a bitch.' She was a pushy dame, but she had a case..."

(16,935 posts)When I worked from home I discovered this link and listened to original old radio shows while i worked. One of my favorites is Pat Novak for hire, with the dialogue so similar to what you wrote. There are only 14 episodes, but with Jack Webb as Pat Novak, and Raymond Burr as the hard nose cop, it is priceless.
