Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI went to the opera this afternoon - Boris Godunov, the Met's HD live broadcast
in a theatre. It was wonderful; Rene Pape is a magnificent Boris. I wasn't too nervous about going to the theatre; I'm triple-vaxxed, wore an N-95 mask, the place is large and well-ventilated, it wasn't very crowded, and almost everybody was wearing masks (the only exceptions I noticed were a group of four very large people who brought in their very large tubs of popcorn. Popcorn? At the opera? Whatever... Fortunately they were a fair distance away from me). Loved the performance. There's an encore broadcast next week; if you're an opera fan you should go.
And I reserved a ticket for Fire Shut Up In My Bones for 10/23. This is the first performance by the Met of an opera by a Black composer, Terence Blanchard. I heard parts of it on the radio and loved it. The libretto is from a memoir by the writer and columnist Charles Blow. https://www.metopera.org/season/2021-22-season/fire-shut-up-in-my-bones/ I'm looking forward to it; so glad the Met is back in business.

(34,103 posts)about those. We stopped going when Covid began. Must start again. I have not seen Boris Godunov.
I have been hearing about Fire Shut Up In My Bones. I am going to go check if that one will be here, I have been watching news about it from Broadway sources. I will likely miss it as I have a heart procedure coming up and am reluctant to risk much but I really really would like to see that too. We have tickets to Al Franken but everyone must provide vaccination info and wear masks and I just got my booster so.....we are considering what to do about that. If the procedure works I should be good to go and well protected by mid November. It still makes me goosey being in a crowd.
ENJOY it! I bet it is phenomenal. I also saw that Lackawanna Blues has been made into a one man show by the author and is getting ready to open. I so wish they would start doing plays as well. I would kill to see that one.
