A student (I have a long-term subbing assignment) told me about it.
I just finished episode one of season one.
Thanks for any feedback......

(46,981 posts)It is a high concept show, the basic idea is fascinating.
The script and acting began to falter quickly however.
I do recommend watching at least a few episodes just to let the concept sink in.
Germany and Japan winning WWII and taking over the US. Fascinating story.

Based on Philip K Dick novel. Enjoyed it.. Watched it during lockdown.

(8,041 posts)quite good (except season two takes a little bit of a dip).
I wished to Hell I'd know about it during lockdown!

(8,041 posts)I hope there was a series finale and it didn't end abruptly.

(8,041 posts)I know it was based on a book so my assumption was that there would be an ending but sometimes shows get cancelled with no finale (I'm talkin' about you, The OA_-LOL )....

(3,289 posts)That was confusing to me.
I find myself thinking about it, especially the last season.

(8,041 posts)The reviews for season two were lower (on Rotten Tomatoes - but they still gave it a thumbs up) than the other seasons.

Stars JK Simmons in a dual role. He's very good. It's kind of a slow-building drama, but involving.

JK Simmons is one of my favorite actors.....
I highly recommend a movie called, The Lives of Others. It came out in 2006.

(3,289 posts)He plays two very different roles.
I'll check out the movie you mention!

(25,851 posts)Alas, the book it's based on is extremely flawed also, although it earns (in my opinion) unaccountable praise.
It is a relatively early alternate history novel, which is why I think a lot of people don't look at it very carefully. Some years ago my science fiction book club in the Kansas City area read that, and we all agreed it wasn't very good. One member, whose mother is Japanese, was outraged at how it misrepresented Japanese culture, and totally confused it with Chinese. Kind of like, "Chinese, Japanese, what's the difference" with a shrug of the shoulders.

(25,851 posts)I realize others have loved both the book and the series. I'm a pretty big science fiction person, mostly the written word, but a certain amount of big or small screen stuff. However, I have little patience for egregiously wrong stuff.
For my money, the most purely science-fictional movie ever made was 12 Monkeys. I'm not interested in watching the series, because the movie was a complete story, and I can't imagine what they'd have to do to make a series out of it.

I always go for the soap operas.
