(if you dont like grits of any color, if theyre just not part of your diet, you can just skip this thread.)
I prefer the yellow myself. I guess its maybe that I think because theyre yellow they would be healthier than white but I dont know that theres that that is true.

(11,574 posts)We have shrimp and grits fairly often and the colors are so appetizing (as are the spicy aromas). When the dish is placed on the table to serve the whole family goes 'wow'.
White corn just wouldn't be the same.

I must be the only Southern-born person in the country who despises grits...

(32,617 posts)When I was served yellow grits, I knew what they were right away.
On another occasion, I was served white grits, and I thought it was oatmeal but there was something wrong with it. When you're a guest in someone else's house, you try not to criticize or react negatively. So the hostess told me it was grits not oatmeal, and I decided it tasted OK after all.

(22,038 posts)I grew up with white grits for breakfast most mornings. Butter and pepper, usually with sausage and a fried egg. Fresh tomatoes on the side was a treat. They have to be made on top of the stove--not that microwave crap.
Nummers! Haven't had them in years though.

I don't care if they are white or yellow as long as there is enough salt and butter in them.

(4,897 posts)To me, yellow grits remind me of the grits we were served in public school when I attended in the 1970s. The yellow grits in the cafeterias were often served into the round compartment in the lunch tray, and then after about 4-5 minutes hardened to a consistency where the yellow grits disc could be scooped up and tossed down the table (elementary school). Later, I theorized the yellow grits were somehow dual purpose leftover war materiel used to feed troops and repair bomb damage in runways.

(63,900 posts)Growing up I had no idea where grits were from (yellow or white corn). I just ate it. I kinda liked it, too but I never thought to ask...
