(3,621 posts)right before Thanksgiving, so we were concerned about her being around a tree. Well, my wife was concerned, I was not a cat person and had no clue that cats and trees usually don't mix. But we put it up and watched her interact with it. She took one look and walked away. She pays it no attention and never really gets near it. Regardless, we made sure to limit what we put on the tree to eliminate any temptation.
She's a bit unusual for a cat, anyway. She doesn't jump on counters or tables and really doesn't get into mischief. 'Mellow' should be her name.
To the OP, yes, the tree is up. I usually put it up the day after Thanksgiving, but I was a few days late this year. Perhaps I'll compensate by taking it down late in January.

(12,646 posts)I've had six cats and only one was interested in the tree after two sniffs.
Goblin broke branches on artificial trees twice trying to climb them as soon as we put it up. A friend told me about the balloon trick, in the lower branches next to the middle "stalk" and leave it undecorated overnight. Sure enough, we heard two loud pops, and she's never tried to climb a tree since.
Last year we got a real tree - a scraggly 7 ft. Noble Fir - as a treat for the granddaughters from a relatively local family owned tree grower to help keep them in business. The only interest any of our cats showed in that tree was the water in the stand.
Our late, beloved dog (heeler/Aussie Shepherd/Lab mix) knocked over holiday trees regularly until we learned to 1: bolt the base to a 3' diameter bit of 1" plywood and 2: never put Great-grandmother's pressed glass German ornetaments actually on the tree. They end up strung on the book cases with felt and tinsle craft garlands and lights where the stockings end up Xmas Eve.
On edit - we put ours up this weekend. Grandkids decorated it all by themselves (no breakable ornaments yet) with lots of pipe-cleaner and craft bell ornaments we made last year during the lockdown. The only work on it we grownups did was put the tree together and the topper on it. They even strung the lights themselves (all on one side), and put the battery operated Duplo train set around the base without help. It's very - artistic.

(12,463 posts)I trust your opinion about my tree. I always loved tin foil trees. I should photo all the cat ornaments too.
I wonder where I could find a rotating light. To turn my tree different colors. Maybe there is a led rainbow model. I'm going to look for one online.

(2,745 posts)It had a light kit that rotated, casting different colors on the tree

(4,390 posts)and plied the little elf decorators with cookies and chocolate milk, LOL! DH and I do the take down sometime in early January.
We will try to put the outdoor decorations up tomorrow; we had thunder here tonight too! Icicle lights over the neighborly double garages between our townhomes, and a wreath on our garage light; new stiffened red bow minus the old decrepit bell on the pergola over the entry walkway with glittery red and green metallic garland (I hope it doesn't scare our winter birds/ducks too badly.) The old fake pine garland was shot so we replaced it with what we could find - Outdoor fake garland is costly stuff if it's even available, so I hope we'll get more than a single season. Outdoor fabric poinsettias at the walkway split - these are usually changed seasonally w/real flowers - summer(real) fall(real), and Christmas(not real ones). Our new neighbors have unlighted decor up at their door as well. There's a metal sculptured sled w/Santa at the front step and a holly garland and wreath on the door.
Indoor, the tunes will be playing; the wine to be uncorked. Can't wait for Santa and eggnog and all our favorite gnashes and cookies on Christmas Eve.

(205,161 posts)You could even use it for a photo Christmas card. You couldn't get a better photo if you got him to pose, which we know is impossible for cats...

She never bothered with the decorations or anything. Just liked curling up under it and snoozing.

(6,110 posts)I got it two years ago, didn't bother with it until yesterday. It has this "flocking" made of some type of styrofoam material. It went flying everywhere. After I finished vacuuming that up, it was easy. I put an angel of top and plugged it in. Voila.

Giant dog went over the rainbow bridge on 9/11 this year.
So, the tree is kind of bittersweet.

(15,805 posts)Last year we waited too long and barely found a tall enough tree after driving around to six different tree farms. It wasn't that tall.
We get a real tree each year, figure it's supporting the local tree farmers. Trees are plentiful around here. With the super hot summer and drought, I knew we'd be facing a bit of a tree shortage so I insisted we get a tree last Friday. On the plus side, we were able to find a tree that was 2' higher than last year. The top is a bit crooked so pointy glass tree topper. We used to use a very naked angel ornament as the tree topper so we might have to switch back to that this year.
We wait until at least one kid is home before we start decorating the tree. I'd prefer both home but the youngest won't likely make it until right before Christmas so we'll likely FaceTime with him while decorating the tree.

for my new house. When I moved to an apartment several years ago I got rid of most of my Christmas decorations, including the 4 ft fake table top tree and all but a few of its ornaments. Decided I wanted a tree for the house so I bought a fake 5 ft tree and all new ornaments with a nature theme. Lots of pine cones, berries, glitter butterflies, hummingbirds, a dragonfly, etc.
I'm enjoying the sparkle from it at night.
Here it is

(22,250 posts)we added a long string of multicolored lights and some ornaments and put it on a table.
Our ornament collection is huge, definitely enough for this tree and our other one which is twice the size. This year we just scrambled through the various boxes and put a mixed bag of ornaments on the tree. It looks just right for this year.
for what it's worth, I have never gotten my tree up this early!!! Usually I put it up around the middle of December. When I was growing up our tree never went up until maybe 10 days before Christmas and it came DOWN on New Year's Day, so I have never been into putting Christmas decorations up a month ahead of time.
We had live trees (actually they were fairly scruffy looking cedars) from my uncle's farm and my mom hated them because they shed needles. We all sneezed our way through the holidays and it wasn't until we finally got an artificial tree that we realized we were all allergic to those scrub cedars!!!
We have a nice braided light garland for the front door and that is all we will do outside.

Been trying to finish it since last Fri. Its a live fir. We are into rustic here, and our tree is the same....lots of little wildlife animals and birds, bird nests, bird houses, fabric and wood ornaments. Some fake fruit and pine cones. The topper is a rusty star. It all fits with our log cabin. I put some antique toys underneath that Mr. Bayard had--a small wood tricycle, a little sled, a rocking horse. After the first of the year, the goat herd will consume every spec of it.
I love seeing everyone's pics and descriptions. Merry Xmas, DU!
