Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWe lost our girl, Chloe, yesterday morning
Its still hard to write this.
Chloe was one of our Great Pyrenees rescues. She was 12 years old, and we got her when she was 7.
In less than 12 hours, she developed an auto-immune condition where her body started attacking her red blood cells. Not only that, it also went after the platelets, meaning her blood couldn't clot, causing internal bleeding, and black poop. Its called, Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. She couldn't even stand up.
We had her at the vet first thing the next morning. He said, yes, it really can happen that fast. They had to take her in on a stretcher. We decided to keep her at the vet for them to continue treatment with IV fluids and steroids. The alternative would have been to rush her to Louisville or Nashville for blood transfusions at a cost of $5K+.
We went to see her on Fri. again, and she was doing amazingly well. Up walking around, and ate some treats we brought. The vet called us on Saturday, and said he was, "tickled to death", at how she was doing.
But then, as we were getting ready to go pick her up on Monday morning, the vet called to say she had passed away after all. That the staff was pretty sad because everyone had fallen in love with her.
She was so easy to love. So sweet. Her Chloe greeting was to wrinkle her nose and grin at us. When she heard our voices on Friday, that's what she did. Glad we had that one last time. I feel so bad about not being there when she died, but the vet said one of the techs was with her, so she wasn't alone.
We miss her so much! Its devastating, even though I've been through this many times, it never gets any easier. The other 2 Pyr's are looking for her. Chloe was such a good girl, very loving, and well loved.

May your tears dry and may the sweetest memories remain, my friend.

Posting again to relate how grief over losing a beloved dog or any intelligent soul feels: Knowing they knew us, like no others have, when they're gone, it feels as if pieces of us are lost. It tears our hearts.
I share your tears and grief, dear friend. Another candle for Chloe....

(1,243 posts)Wow! We just lost our Yorkie who passed 2 weeks before turning 14 yrs. She had red blood cell/heart issues and one day could not stand up. Took her to the vet where they gave her fluids also and she passed at the vet. So I deeply regret not being with her but trusted her with the vet. I think we all have some regret when it comes to our pets but I believe they are always with us. They will wait for us because they love us that much.
