Tip for Kindle users. Turn off the wifi.

I went through several months when I didn't use it at all, didn't like it, and a few times the battery had totally drained. Then with every re-charge, the charges didn't last much at all and I feared I had damaged the battery. Tech support told me that, because I left WiFi or Whispernet or whatever it is, on all the time, the thing would spend itself because it was detecting faint signals from my router and would attempt to connect all the time.

So the WiFi needs to be off all the time, on only when you're going to download something or for an update.
