The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just watched a little known Greta Garbo's movie..,
The Painted Veil with Herbert Marshall, who did a great turn as W. Somerset Maugham in The Razor's Edge, was a Dr. doing missionary work in China during a colerah epidemic.
Garbo married the good Dr. to escape from her Bourgeoisie home in Switzerland.
Anyway, I was really taken with Ms. Garbo, "who turned her back on stardom because she wanted to be alone.." Ray Davies, Celliod Heros.
The way she suffered was a little over the top by todays standards, but I can see why she was so loved by both men and women. Vulnerable, beautiful with a heart of gold.
I'm not sure what I am trying to get at but the movie was very entertaining. There was even some pretty good special effects.
