I'd searched before, and it never was available on youtube--until recently.

It's from Quincy Jones' 1974 album, Body Heat.

That year, I bought an 8-track quadrophonic sound system and spent some time installing it in my car. This was one of the first 8-track quad albums I bought.

The song struck me, making me think of some of the troops with whom I'd served in Vietnam.

Beyond that, the way it was engineered also was striking. They must have used some kind of mobile mike, because some of the sounds would rotate around the speakers, from Speaker 1, to 2, to 3, to 4.

The song was great, but the engineering made it so much more interesting as a listening experience.

VN vets' mix tapes were fairly predictable--We Gotta Get Outta This Place, Run Through the Jungle, Born in the USA, that unpronouncable Billy Joel in Russia tune, Eve of Destruction, etc. Mine always included one certain selection from Quincy Jones.

And it's great to finally see it available on youtube!

Jones always brought in great vocalists and instrumentalists. He wanted only the best for his compositions, naturally. And I'm sure he oversaw the engineering in the studio.

Still, I'm partial to Soul Saga. I think that may be his best one, in composition and in the engineering of the recording.

Either way, I think we--and all of the other listeners--come out winners.
