It's the cocktail hour. Enjoying an Algonquian.

Rye whiskey, dry vermouth, and pineapple juice.

I can tell already that rye is something that I’m not going to want to drink neat. So I’m working my way through the cocktails for which rye is a base.

Happy Saturday night, everyone!

and I suspect Rye is related to Canadian.

AHA! 'Today, as for the past two centuries, the terms "rye whisky" and "Canadian whisky" are used interchangeably in Canada and (as defined in Canadian law) refer to exactly the same product, which generally is made with only a small amount of rye grain.'

As far as I'm concerned, NONE of them are 'polite on the palate,' but may try once more (IF there is some here,) as a test.

Especially my local distillery, Woodinville. Smooth, sweet, with notes of cinnamon.

I have to mix it…it’s a little too bitey to drink neat.

Speaking of the brown liquid…I visited Westward bourbon distillery this weekend in PDX I may or may not have purchased more bourbon than I intended. It’s lovely stuff. Looking forward to savoring it all winter long back home in MT.

Cheers!

I liked to have one neat when it was cold and blustery. The brand was something like Old Overcoat. That name was a joke, but it's what I remember.

Would you drink a different brand than your local Rye neat?

I'm having my usual G & T alone since my partner has headed out to work her shift at the hospital labs.

Happy Saturday to you.

I suppose I should give rye the same chance I gave bourbon, which I didn’t used to like until I found the right one.

It was only one shot when I was chilled and then other drinks.

Long ago I drank Mr. Daniel's, Dickle's and Beam's whiskeys often but I moved on to various Irish whiskeys because they were milder.

Of course, if you don't like Manhattans, then it can't be one of your rye cocktails.
