(86,547 posts)My county is increasing in cases and expect a big spike in coming weeks. Hardly anyone wears a mask anymore, I still do, and not many are getting boosted anymore, the clinics are only available once a week but you can go to a pharmacy to get vaxxed too.
I got both the booster and flu shots a week ago so I feel a little better about being out in public when I am in stores and such.

(6,019 posts)I'm much more concerned about getting people vaccinated with the most recent booster. The daily case loads aren't spiking and the vast majority of complications and deaths are in those who still have not been vaccinated. I don't even see much in terms of complications for those who only got the first two shots. Our whole family is on the most recent booster in the last month, and I'm not concerned with myself or others wearing a mask unless we/they are symptomatic, or if we're in a medical facility. However, if others feel safer wearing one, I have no issue with it.

(6,019 posts)Even if we test positive for COVID or are symptomatic, the likelihood of spreading it to others is extremely small, and we'd be staying home or wearing a mask anyway. And again, if you are high risk or someone you are around is high risk, you will be wearing your own mask so the risk is even further reduced.
The majority of the public no longer wears a mask, and will not unless we go back to extreme levels. Your wish is not going to happen. At this point, it is up to the individual to determine his/her own level of acceptable risk, take precautions and move on. You don't need to blame/shame people who act sensibly and take proper precautions.

(21,432 posts)where did you get the idea that you can't spread it?
Some people remain asymptomatic when infected and without symptoms, they don't test themselves. Asymptomatic people can still spread the virus. Some people are infected but don't have symptoms in the first few days. They can spread it.
For many people, being vaccinated does not prevent infection. It does prevent hospitalization and death for most (but not all) people. And vaccination does not prevent long covid.
We are MUCH better off now that there are vaccines and boosters. But the virus does still spread when infected people come in contact with others.
Mask wearing is a choice now, but that does not mean that the spread of infection is over.

(11,008 posts)We were down to about 3500 a week a couple weeks ago - it's back up over 4K this week. A friend just had a scare - she was visiting her kid and newborn granddaughter. The in-laws she was spending time with both tested positive right after she left. She's negative thankfully, and was the only person in their group who had the new booster.
So apparently the booster is working at least.

(16,783 posts)Living in a Senior Living complex now, several residents, myself included, were isolated. All NEGATIVE now.
One resident was telling me he and his wife had symptoms resembling a bad cold, but took medications for it. They are also in their latter 80's.
Another was on a short trip to Las Vegas and tested Positive the same day I did on the 26th of October. He was 4 days back from Las Vegas by then. His symptoms were that of a mild sinus cold. He is late 70's.
Mine were non existent save for minimal sinus drip. NONE of the more obvious symptoms.
If one is experiencing Cold-like or minor Flu symptoms , get tested just to be sure. Should you test Positive, isolate for at least 5 to 7 days. Test again to make sure you are COVID free either at a Clinic or via effective home rapid tests. The more pro-active we are, the better we get a handle on this.
