Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsYou ever have one of those days where you really wish ... you were still back at College?
Whenever the CA Central Coast is in the news, which it is today, unfortunately due to the walloping of rain they're taking I tend to get nostalgic.
Ah ... those were the DAYS, man ... Mustang Village just off-campus at Cal Poly, SLO, 1990. Look at all that HAIR and natural curls!

(86,572 posts)As my elder sister used to say,
"You were so cute when you were young, what happened?"
I would be happy if I still looked that way, the rest of it, meh.

(24,653 posts)I was in college in 1990. Sadly on the opposite coast. Because I'm with Ocelot II

(33,643 posts)Dang tho that was great time to be in college ... so much so that I took 6 years at it
Though to be fair, I was working, and Cal Poly requires a LOT of lab time for a science degree. Most take 5 years there.
Plus I did JC first.
Freaking good times ... and thanks for the props

(24,653 posts)Ha ha! In retrospect I wish I'd taken six years.
It was a good time to be in college. I now have one who is a sophomore, another a senior graduating in May, and my eldest got his masters this past December. Can't tell them I'm a wee bit jealous. LOL!

(14,015 posts)I remember my father, weeks away from divorcing my beloved mother, and I a few weeks from graduating high school, saying, "do you want to go to college?"
I said (earnestly), "hell, no - I want to get a job and move in with Nancy!"
He, breathing a sigh of relief, said, "good, cuz couldn't afford it, anyhow!"
Thanks for the memories, Hugh_! (I'm 64 now, and needed a laugh badly.)

So I got Rosie-girl for yesterday/today, she's chilling while I work ... actually just taking a coding tutorial, not really 'working' exactly, but I get paid

(25,164 posts)did you go to Cal Poly for?
Hugh_Lebowski
(33,643 posts)I did go to an agency once just to inquire around then, and was told my dimensions were really not optimal, I was 6'5" and 185lbs at that point. But I knew how to pose innately
Year is in the OP ... it was either late 1989 or early 1990.
And my major was in Natural Resources Management, with Environmental Sciences concentration.
Oh, wait ... you're not the Feds, right

(25,164 posts)you end up getting a job in those fields? Thank you. And yes, sometimes I wish I was at Penn State-mid/late 70's. I loved it up in the Nittany Mts. of PA.

(17,193 posts)Was never really "at" college, and from what I've heard about the experience, probably wouldn't have liked it.
But I often wish the world now was more similar to how it was then.

(48,973 posts)which you mentioned in the OP, sounded ever so slightly familiar, making me think I'd heard or read that unusual name before. But I couldn't think where.
Then this morning I started to remember (yeah, super slow memory), and checked...and it was something you wrote last year about college memories - your replies in this thread about The Alarm:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/103467100
You asked if people ever wish they were back in college. Not really, since I have both good and bad memories of college.
Cute pic there, btw.

I used to 'entertain' often via opening my windows and cranking the tunes. There was a lot of The Alarm (both Eye of the Hurricane and Change discs), U2 - Rattle And Hum, and The Stone Roses debut in the rotation at the time
