Anyone see Beasts of the Southern Wild?

And if so, were you as blown away by it as I was?

I had a lot of family hit pretty hard by Katrina, so maybe I can relate to the tragedy a little bit (although I won't pretend for one second that I know anybody living in a similar area to that in which the characters of this movie lived), but this felt like what "Tree of Life" would have felt like if it were less emotionally detached.

My girlfriend after the movie, the hipster film studies major that she is, compared the film's structure to a giant teardrop, starting out cold, then swelling to unimaginable pain and heartbreak. But in the end, it is one of the most triumphant and inspirational stories I've seen on screen in a long time.

And if the two (heretofore unheard of) leads, including the little girl, aren't nominated for Oscars, then fuck the Academy.

my favorite part was the beasts, they were cute!

and I agree with what you said about "Tree of Life", I found myself contrasting the two as well. I forgot most of "Tree of Life" right away, but I think most of "Beasts" will stay with me a long time.
