(115,681 posts)but a few years ago I tried traditional acupuncture to deal with an injured knee (got tired of cortisone shots). I was very skeptical but nothing else was working so I went to this place where there was an old Chinese doctor who didn't speak English, and he poked me with needles, and after a few weeks of these treatments the pain went away and hasn't come back. I can't explain it; it wasn't the placebo effect because I didn't think it was going to work. But it did.
Whether it would work along with chiropractic medicine, I don't know. I remain very skeptical about chiropractors.

(22,845 posts)Herniated disc. I was getting cortisone shots every six months, but they affected my bone density. So I went to an acupuncturist recommended by my health insurance company. This was 6 or 7 years ago, and I haven't needed a cortisone shot since then.
