it can stay green for two months or more but usually less and sometimes it really feels like only a couple weeks.

no, half of pond is fenced off for management purposes - wildlife, bad fence on the other side, etc. We get tons of ducks and geese and the occasional cranes, other shore birds in there especially in the fall.

thanks and you are welcome

it is dry and crunchy around the HQ - invaded by grasshoppers, and yet a half mile or so away - that last pic.

one of the peaches that was on my young tree, devoured along with all of the leaves:

I have never seen grasshoppers eat a whole piece of fruit and leave the seed on the tree. Really sad.

He had an ENORMOUS lump of a Colorado River Toad that was absolutely motionless until we dangled a little
pinkie mouse over it. It would strain upward while opening its HUGE WIDE mouth and envelop the mouse --
then settle back down. I don't remember EVER seeing it move except for that mousechomp.

my biggest problem? my stupid sentimentality. I want to dump the land line, but that number has been in use since before I was born - was a party line and all that blah blah blah
