Work out buddies, yay or nay?

When I am not blogging, I work the front desk of a gym in a diverse little corner of Queens, Ny. I was wondering today, would most people be more successful at fitness goals if they had a peep to sweat beside, or in this one instance at least, all about the individual?

I used to try to play tennis casually with a friend. It was difficult finding someone who'd do it regularly, or on the same schedule that you wanted (& vice versa), that you both play at the same level, and that you like each other.

I think of exercise as something to do when I can, even if it's at home at 10:00 at night, or a short walk before work, or yoga in the morning while watching Joe Scabby and Meekhead. Can't have a workout bud at those times. Even if I did, I doubt they'd always want to do what I want, and for the same length of time, and vice versa.

For me, it's just easier and more pleasurable to go it alone. Except for my dogs....I take them for walks two to four times a week, which gets me out when I may not feel like it.

Biking or lifting weights or running suicides I prefer to do alone. But for gymnastics or capoeira I prefer having others around. I think because in those I can't just put on head phones to do and they require a fair amount of space to work on. But it also helps to have somebody be able to offer pointers when I'm struggling, plus it makes me feel a little more accountable.

I think it largely depends on what your individual personality is. Some people need the group dynamic to keep them interested or to keep them on track.

I get too lazy on my own and come up with a hundred excuses to skip the gym but if I know a friend is waiting for me there, I make sure I show up.

Workout buddies ever! My partner works out at my gym, but not at the same time I do. This can lead to hilarity when a hotsy totsy prances around, I can tell you!
