He didn't make a peep for a day or so, then he barked by accident. He looked around, really surprised that no one was yelling at him.
Fast forward - Pooka is very talkative and likes to bark. Normally, this is not a problem. he is a small dog and we live in a rural area. But last night either the neighbor had a new dog or had the dog chained outside. It started with a couple coyote howls. Then, up until about 3 AM, Pooka would bark, then the other dog would bark, then Pooka would bark.
So, how do I tell a dog to get off the phone and go to sleep?

(10,952 posts)If he is left outside you might want to bring him in at night. Year round I have a small fan by the side of my bed that I run for white noise and to help drown out any outside noises. My two little dogs sleep with me and, while every once in a while something will catch their attention at night, I would say 98% of the time they are fine at night.

(36,286 posts)Pooka and Guinness have free access to their outdoor run, and have been known to run down the stairs and tear through the pet door to bark at stuff (who knows what? squirrel farts? mice tromping through the yard? ), but usually they settle right down. I really think the problem was that the other dog was left out all night! I'm just hoping we don't have a repeat of this conversation tonight!

(10,952 posts)I am not sure how far your house is from your neighbors house but all I can think about is using a fan or something like it that can create enough white noise to drown out the neighbors dog. The only other option would be to talk to your neighbor to see if he will keep the dog in at night. Good luck!
