(102,232 posts)New Years Eve was spent packing up all the last stuff I wasn't able to get boxed, sorted, dealt with before the movers took the major stuff. Took me until 10PM then had to drive the rental panel van (slowly) two hours amidst all the DUI roadblocks to my new place. And I still hadn't started the final "cleaning." So, guess what took up 12 hours on New Years Day.
Now, I'm in my new place trying to motivate myself to get up and push my very sore, tired muscles to work on unboxing, laundry, taking down my tiny Christmas tree here, and on and on.
So, if you find that motivation, bottle it and blow it my way. I had no choice to do so the past three days, but now, I'm fighting the "I deserve a rest" excuse. I think it will take a double dose of Motrin, just to make me able to walk the dog!
Uggh, what a way to spend New Years, but at least my 'exercise' resolution has been duly started!

I justify the piles as obstacles for my therapy to be able to navigate around them.

reward yourself with a little somethin... a cookie, 30 min reading.. whatever
then pick the second most important thing..

by the end of the day you'll have at least half the list done, and you won't be exhausted.
A sane mind beats a clean house any day, imho.

I need a little motivating, too. I did the dishes and finished a very small sewing project to help motivate myself, but it didn't take.

I set the timer on my I-phone to one hour (or whatever time period works for you) and determine to work on my priority task. I then can take a break (no longer than an hour) or continue on by resetting the timer. What I often find is that if I am making progress, I will reset the timer and take no break. Progress, in and of itself is motivating. But that way I am conscious of the time passing and able to focus at least for that period on the task at hand.
Most cell phones have a timer like this as part of their pre-loaded clock app. If not, they are freely available for most phones.
Years ago, I used to use a cool old fashioned hour glass in my office to accomplish the same. A very visual reminder as time passes and a good conversation piece as well. (Just watch out for those "flying monkeys"...

(60,212 posts)Set it for 15 minutes.
During that 15 minutes WORK HARD and do what you see that needs doing.
When the timer pings, reset it for another 15 minutes. This is break time. During this time, you can check your email and goof off on teh DU.
Rinse, repeat.
