Favorite instrumental album(s)?

Sometimes it's nice to not listen to someone singing and just enjoy the music.

When I'm in that mood, I like to cue up:

The Inner Mounting Flame - John McLaughlin & Mahavishnu Orchestra

Wired or Guitar Shop - Jeff Beck

....and anything from Stanley Clarke up to and including "Rocks, Pebble and Sand." After that, he kinda went disco on me.

So...what kind of music does it for you, DUers?

Mr. Coltrane knows what's up. Although there a few words in there I think it still counts.

I would listen to an album of that contained all of Rush's instrumentals - especially live versions with extended solos. They've done enough of them I think they could make a good album - they just never did a whole album of them...

The finest tribute to the genius of Leroy Shield - EVER. Leroy Shield's Hal Roach studio music was never published so the Beau Hunks transcribed the music, note for note, from film recordings. They nailed it.

R Crumb loved this music so much he drew the portrait of shield for the album cover.

The Beau Hunks Play the Original Laurel & Hardy Music, Vol. 1 and 2, merit a look-see, too.

Hands down. It's the album that taught almost all of us banjo pickers how to do it.

After that, Byron Berline - Dad's Favorites. David Grisman - Tone Poems.
