Other than the upright base, I think every instrument is percussion (mostly steel drums). The solo at 3:15 is mind numbingly perfect.

Enjoy! (and pass it on)

Enjoy Johnny pounding the ivories with Three Tons of Joy doing 'Willie and the Hand Jive', then he moves over and sets up on the drums, with Lionel Hampton on vibraphone. Too bad there isn't any footage of them actually playing.

The spectacular career of Johnny Otis was a microcosm of the entire Los Angeles postwar R&B and subsequent rock ‘n’ roll scene. He wore every hat imaginable during those rollicking years: bandleader, musician (drummer, vibist, and pianist), dynamic singer, prolific songwriter, hitmaking producer, label owner (Dig Records), deejay, and TV host, excelling at all. He was also a particularly shrewd judge of young talent, discovering the Robins, the Royals, Little Esther, Etta James, and a great many more now-legendary performers.

Edited to add a Lionel Hampton Tom Tom Solo

He plaid at the civic center in Lakewood, Ohio. I think I was about 10 or 11.

He wanted me to show what a great drummer was. I barely remember it, but I do remember how frantic he seemed....
