The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWikipedia describes DU as a Catholic community. Wha?

Didn't know where to post this, so I thought I'd ask here.
The Wikipedia.com article on DU notes right in the first sentence that DU is "an online community for Catholic U.S. Democrats progressives." Huh?? Later on, the article explains how the site is biased in favor of Catholicism, and how some members and moderators are hyper vigilant in suppressing Protestant viewpoints.

Maybe I'm just way to infrequent here, but, if anything, the forums outside of the Religion groups seem to me to be generally anti-religion or non-religious. I see far more posts regarding religion as fairy tales and superstition than I do arguing that one flavor of religion is better than others.
Is the Wiki article accurate, out-dated, or simply hacked?

(12,754 posts)This is interesting. It's a record of discussion on edits, ranging from 2008 (maybe that's when the article was first generated?) to July 2011:

(53,661 posts)Do you have to be a member of Wikipedia to see the talk section?

(12,754 posts)I clicked the "Discussion" tab as a mere casual visitor.

(12,754 posts)Sorry, the link translated the colon-D as a smiley face.
It's
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk-COLON-Democratic_Underground , where -COLON- is replaced by an actual colon.
The Talk is linked through a tab right above the article title at the top of the page. By default, a visitor lands on "Article" tab, but the "Discussion" tab right next to it is what I clicked.
Hm. Also at the top left of the article is a "View History" tab.

(53,661 posts)Hopefully, the person cited at the end of the wiki page was not the one banned today. The page cites someone who wrote a dissertation on DU to get a Ph. D. in media, allegedly.
Google shows this from the name cited: "Jeanette Castillo - Professor, writer, producer, student of tricksterism - FSU - Seize the tools and tell your story."

It may not be the SAME person though, I simply can't tell. I'm sure whoever it was wasn't banned for not being a Catholic, no doubt this person committed some other dumbassery.
If the 'trickerism' part is correct, this is a person who has been attending universities across the country. We don't know.

(53,661 posts)Or else in the Meta forum, but I think that it'd be better to get it directly to the Admins, etc. I had no idea there was a Wikipedia page on DU. Thanks, that was an interesting read with history, but somewhat biased, maybe. Definitely not current and no mention of DU3.
A Jeanette Castillo in Florida is cited as having gotten her Ph. D from an dissertation of DU. No telling if that's true, though.

(12,754 posts)I don't mean to sound ignorant, but I know it's not a matter of copying the whole URL from the browser. How can I produce a "short link" that goes right to this thread?

(12,754 posts)Before today, I didn't even know DU had a Wikipedia article, but I just happened to look for it tonight out of curiosity.
Parts of it did certainly read like they were contributed by someone who felt slighted. I see now that that is absolutely correct.

You can guess how he gets out.
So I guess that makes him, in that picture, Rick pre-Santorum.
