I have very little desire to see "The Hobbit"

I really enjoyed Peter Jackson's LotR movies - I even got misty-eyed at the end of Return of the King. However, I just don't have an urge to run out & see The Hobbit - and, I'm usually one to go out & see big movies ASAP. Especially since it uses the new 48fps technology.

Not sure why - maybe it's because they're making 3 movies out of a 300 page kid's book? No idea, though.

Plus, I'm usually one of the Lounge's biggest fantasy geeks.

(but I do confess to enjoying "The Avengers" in the theater).

I did, however, buy the DVDs when they came out. (I still don't have blue-ray, and will not buy the BR editions when the DVDs stop being pressed).

I don't know if I was in a different frame of mind or what. But it was captivating, despite the length.

Maybe you're just not in the mood right now, like I wasn't before.

I'm not so sure the Hobbit was JUST a kid's book. When I was much younger, but still a teen or young adult, it was all the rage among that age group. It was thought of as a cool book, like Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet. I bought both. Didn't finish either. Neither one held my interest, but I liked The Prophet more.
