(40,656 posts)dog kennel backwards. They automatically turn their heads around to face their enemies. When they are herding, they make a circle around the babies and elderly with their horns out to keep predators from coming near.
My dad bought my mom a tube like scarf made of their long belly hairs that the people who raise them gather and pull off to use in knitting. It is called qiviot and is so warm you can hardly wear it. Its knitted in a very light weave and is so light weight you can't feel it when you hold it in your hand. It is the colors that calf wears.
They are an awesome animal. You can see them wild around Nome. Hardy, can dig for food, are fearless. They aren't big. That baby is about the size of a medium sized dog. Very cute. I love them.
