(4,522 posts)She still teaches, I have some bass and guitar lessons from her - she always writes a message on them. Pretty cool stuff - she has a very "chordal" approach.

(18,678 posts)Carol has a formidable resume, but she's been known to claim credit for playing on everything but Edison's first wax cylinder.
Most notable are her claims of recording some of the biggest Motown hits of the 60's and 70's.
James Jamerson biographer, Allan Slutsky did the research and concluded that he played on many of the sessions that Carol Kaye claimed.
(Excerpt of article here. See "The Carol Kaye-James Jamerson Enigma" halfway down the page.)

(2,550 posts)I've read many of those refutations (sic).
I have watched 'Standing In The Shadows' maybe a dozen times, as I play bass also (although no where near in that league) and wish to better my playing.
I am blown away by both, Carol and James, and their skills, regardless of this 'enigma'.
If you were to go to her website, you would find testimonials from many major bassists who credit her with being a great
in-person teacher.
She also has a forum where she answers questions from the general populace regarding styles, chording, scales, leading notes, gear setups, and whatever.
I give her major kudos for that.
