(56,912 posts)I have finally broken down and created a board . Something to do on a cold winter's night .

(34,136 posts)For projects. I think that would be a neat use, though I wouldn't want to make mine public if I did it.
It's sort of like Facebook and Twitter as far as I'm concerned. If I wanted to be that social, I'd spend more time actually around people.

(56,912 posts)ugh.
really though I thought I would see what it is all about ... I don't twitter and I don't FB.

(34,136 posts)I barely talk to people on the landline phone! I hate talking on a cell phone. VOIP always sounds like it's underwater and I don't expect Skype to be any better!
I've been using online forums for twenty years or more and communicate better by typing (and editing a LOT) than by talking.
Pinterest does seem to be a neat way to accumulate visual things. I'm not sure if the images are actually stored on your page or if they are only linked. I keep hitting Pinterest pages when I am looking for examples of specific needlework projects.
Tuesday Afternoon
(56,912 posts)projects of all kinds.
csziggy
(34,136 posts)And I might end up using it for that. I'm involved with my local EGA (Embroiderers' Guild of America) group and will be suggesting projects for next year. Sometimes the pictures provided are not very good and I can find better on the internet, or there are variations in colors offered but the listing for the project only shows one color possibility. Having them on a web page for our members to compare might be useful.

(56,912 posts)You can set up your board how you want it, if I am understanding correctly what I am hearing and reading.

(34,136 posts)I'm still getting up to speed after various events over the last month. We're going out of town for the next week so I won't get a chance to look until February.
That's the other reason I don't get into most of the social sites - I have too much to keep up with now! I haven't updated my blog for about a year now - and I've got lots I could have put on it.

(11,252 posts)You can have up to 3 boards that no one has access to unless you specifically invite them to see your boards.

It would be a huge help for me if I start a Answer In GIFs Only thread.

(5,810 posts)hints for new moms, books you like, places you have visited (want to visit), music links, YouTube favorites,
hair styles, household hints, photography tutorials, organization for just about anything, links to Free Fonts.
And this is a tiny list of the stuff you can find there. They have recently introduced "private boards", although I have not started one yet. It's for planning things that you do not wish to share. As for the regular boards, people can "follow" your boards, especially if they like your style and the things you post. Your pins can be repinned if they are popular. I suppose if you wanted to you could make all of your boards private.
But be warned, it is addicting and can eat up hours of your time, kind of like a certain other place I visit from time to time, especially during election season. Ahem.
Great resource for lots and lots of subjects and is suitable for men or women, but women seem to be the primary pinners and users. If you can find it on the internet and want to "bookmark" it in an easy, organized way, Pinterest might be for you. I spend a large portion of my Pinterest time just looking at other pins and repinning them to my boards so I can find them when I want to later.
As for Skype, it is a great tool (free) and makes talking with friends and relatives so much better since you can see each other and show each other things like projects you're working on or something you bought and want to show off. It is sooo much better than a regular phone call. I love it and my niece and I call all the time on Skype and share a cup of coffee and a face to face chat!

(72,300 posts)I'm beginning to see clear spaces, still unpacking and trying to figure out where to stash all my goodies before I drive down to Florence later on this year. I have a storage bin with a carload of good stuff that I want to bring home.

(2,579 posts)And, like Grammy23 said, I end up spending way too much time on it.
I think I have an addiction to information, especially information that looks like it could be useful. I could spend the next 30 years trying out all of the hints and ideas!

Tuesday Afternoon
(56,912 posts)These girls made their Halloween costumes at work. Plan and write invitations to parties and showers at work. Have hour long gossip sessions in the back office ... etc. etc. etc.
Have no concern about walking passed a person to give another person an invitation to these parties. Is that rude or I am overly sensitive?

(14,061 posts)It became a real sore spot for me. We work in a tight-deadline environment where things sometimes have to be turned around in five minutes or less, and sometimes even without a deadline the work piles up. I would be working my tail off, and I would look over and she'd be perusing wedding dresses, totally oblivious.

(3,208 posts)It is a great place for sharing ideas and getting inspiration.
The format makes it easy for when you get online and think "now, where did i see that?"
I would have loved this (and lets face it, the internet period), when my kids were little.I find new things to do with the grandsons that I never did (or forgot about) when my kids were little.
The past few weeks I have been depressed over some things and I can get on there and scroll through the humor page and feel much better.
