Entertainment Weekly reported the bands guitarist, Tony Iommi, announced in a statement on his website on Monday that he was diagnosed with early stage lymphoma.
According to Reuters, the band is currently working on its first album in 33 years and has moved from Los Angeles to London in order to accommodate Iommi better while he undergoes treatment for the cancer.
"His bandmates would like everyone to send positive vibes to the guitarist at this time," the statement read. "Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan -- the 'Iron Man' of Rock & Roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery."
The statement also adds that the band will release the album as scheduled in the fall... http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/black-sabbaths-tony-iommi-diagnosed-lymphoma-01-09-2012
Say it isn't so...

(19,370 posts)Tony was brilliant. He's greatly underrated as far as I'm concerned. Did things with a guitar in the late sixties and early seventies that everyone else was afraid to do.
Best of luck to him.

Talk about overcoming adversity and turning it into a strength.
I wish him ALL the best.

(8,556 posts)The metal community has always bowed down to him as their god. As they should. He's the very definition of 'badass.'

(9,988 posts)That's changed a lot in the last decade or so, thankfully.

(12,132 posts)and it was easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. I was there to finally see Tony play live and he did not disappoint.
Of course, I love the Dio Sabbath records anyway but I had seen Dio a couple times before and I've had tickets to see Black Sabbath a coup-le times in the past but something always happened and either the show was canceled or I was canceled so the H&H tour was the first time I ever got to see him play.
I think some of bones are still reverberating.

(19,370 posts)I saw Sabbath at the California Jam in '74. Awesome show.
Glad you got to see the H&H show. Hard to believe that Dio was like 65 years old out there! And Geezer Butler flat blew me away! The man still wails on the bass!

(12,132 posts)But I can't hate ya!
So I don't guess I know much about this kind of cancer - is it beatable? kinda? Is he gonna be too tired to tour like they were planning? I know it's awfully selfish to worry about how his cancer affects my concert going so I want to be clear that I want nothing but for him to make a full recovery even if it means he never plays another note. (although I wonder if HE would want that...I got the impression he kinda likes playing...).
But what I'm saying is get well Tony Iommi. I've been a fan for 30 years and don't ever plan to change that so if I get to see you play again that is great but even if I don't I hope you get to spend the rest of your days in comfort surrounded by your loved ones. Thanks for all the great music that will forever be a part of the fabric that makes up me.

We saw BS about 8 years ago? Something like that - anyway it was with Ozzy, not RJD. Good show. Sending many positive vibes to you, Mr. Iommi!
