Oops!

Earlier this week I had a co-worker go running out of the office. Someone had broken into her nephew's home and stabbed the nephew (in the arm). A reserve deputy, they guy was able to get his gun and shoot at the burglar (missed the guy).

Now I have to admit that I don't pay hardly any attention to the news. Yesterday I was asking the lady if that was her nephew that had gotten injured the other day. She immediately stated that she cannot talk about it because it it under investigation. And then of course talks about her ire that they put so much information on the news about her nephew that his name and where he lives is public knowledge. People can google it get all kinds of information.

Well, so I decided to google the incident. Here is where the oops! comes in. It turns out that it was all a hoax, the nephew lost his job with the sheriff's department and is facing possible criminal charges. I had no idea because I hadn't been watching the news or participated in the office grapevine.

I told another co-worker what happened and that I had asked the lady about her nephew. My co-worker said "Oh you really didn't do that did you?" Yup I had.

Man I missed out on all the discussion about it in the office.

My fave though was my friend, not me... Super nice guy at work got a little in over his head with drugs. Was gone for a few months at rehab. Very common knowledge, well except for to my friend. Poor guys first day back at work we see him in the break room. He asks my friend what she had been doing, she says, "drugs, lots of drugs". Well, she doesn't use drugs, she was just being funny, except the look on the poor guys face. I tried to change the subject but it was awkward. He left and I was like, "WHY did you say that????" She said, "i was trying to be funny"...I said she was completely insensitive...she was confused. That's when it came out that she was the only who didn't know.
