Some of them I get, but a lot of them I don't. Post a short explanation!

(4,056 posts)I've tried to change it: There's a clothes shop in Italy called Pinko, and I took a pic of it hoping I could make it my Avatar, but DU doesn't like it for some reason! Ah, well, the bridge is okay. I bike across it a lot, and the view never gets old.
As for the quote at the end: Oscar Wilde said some scandalous and bitingly witty things in his life, but this one shows the idealist that lurked behind the cynic. I love it. Too true.

Guanyin is a Buddhist deity, an enlightened being who remains in the material world to aid in the salvation of all mortals. He is portrayed here as a princely, androgynous man, wearing a tiered crown, bedecked with jewels, and richly clothed in the light, diaphanous silks of an Indian raja. The relaxed pose of Guanyin is known as "great royal ease." He leans on one arm, his knee raised to rest his long, extended arm with sensitively rendered hand and fingers. The figure, also known as the Compassionate and Merciful One, is still and composed, but there is a sense of flowing movement amid swirls of silk and soft scarves that appear to ruffle and sway as if touched by a passing breeze.

(12,272 posts)Mine is a close-up of the inside of the UK's Pavillion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. We stood in line for two hours to get inside, so there is that and I think it works well avatar sized. The structure itself was quite interesting. Here is a short blurb about it:

(12,272 posts)But the polymer tubes held different seeds. Part of the theme behind the expo was sustainable living, so collecting and preserving the seeds was profound in its own way. Many of the pavilions focused more on the exterior structure, though the French had an amazing interior, a cool tropical rain garden and holograms, the rain garden was very welcome as I was there in September and the heat and humidity could be oppressive.

I like the concept of the guitar as a machine, a Fascist-killing one at that.
It reminds me that the pen is mightier than the sword.
It reminds me that pop musicians used to be useful to society and will be again.
It reminds me that when times are tough, people see how similar they are instead of how different.

(5,128 posts)We didn't even know if more than six shows were shot. It all felt a little unapproved. MTV had my heart back then.
It was my first BBC Britcom after Python and Fawlty. I knew who Motorhead and Madness were. I just didn't think there would be a show hip enough to incorporate them.
Get the set. Tell us how it is.

late 14c., from L. centaurus, from Gk. Kentauros, origin disputed. In early Greek literature they were a savage, horse-riding tribe from Thessaly; later they were monsters half horse, half man.
