If not, corn starch is a thickening agent (powder), and corn syrup is a sweetener, as far as I know.

Starch is a polymer of glucose and can be produced by fairly innocuous processes; steeping, light fermentation, separation, drying grinding and then washing and final drying.

Corn syrup is denatured corn starch where the starch is treated to break down the polymer into shorter units such as glucose maltose and fructose. This is an entirely industrial process .
